Everton vs Newcastle United Match Preview
Everton seemed destined to lose last weekend against Manchester United at Goodison Park. They trailed United 1-3 going into stoppage time but came back to gain a miraculous 3-3 draw. It might have been more, too, had referee Martin Atkinson not blown the final whistle as Everton were in full flight in search of a winner. To say that Everton manager David Moyes was irate would be to put it in relatively mild terms. Indeed, Moyes was enraged and, along with assistant Steve Round, confronted the referee on the pitch as the teams were coming off. They are both subject to disciplinary action now. Striker Victor Anichebe is still out with a knee injury.

Newcastle United were stunned by Blackpool at the weekend as the Seasiders beat the Magpies by two goals to none at St. James’s Park. It was Newcastle’s first home loss in 27 games. Now that they’re back in the Premier League, the up and down nature of their early performances suggest they should expect more home losses. Sol Campbell may provide the Magpies added support at the back, but he’s apparently not fit yet. Midfielder Dan Gosling is also out due to a knee injury.

The Trotters were thrashed by Chelsea in their last two matches with the Blues winning 4-0 both in their Carling Cup match and in the Premier League last weekend. Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Deco were on target for Chelsea with Zat Knight scoring an own goal as the Blues secured yet another comfortable result over Bolton.

Megson expressed his disappointment over the results and called on his defense to put up a better fight in the next matches. The Bolton manager also question Knight's ability to keep his focus on the game, adding that the former Villa defender has it in him to become a better player should he manage to keep his concentration levels high right till the final whistle.

West Ham United vs Stoke City Match Preview
Stoke City managed their first premier league victory of the season on Monday when they came from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Britannia Stadium. Kenwyne Jones and Robert Huth were the goal scoring heroes for the Potters. Manager Tony Pulis had missed the first half due to the passing away of his mother, but he made it to the stadium by half time to inspire his men to victory. Stoke won both corresponding fixtures with West Ham last season, 0-1 at Upton Park and 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium.

West Ham remain one of only two EPL clubs still winless this season. (Everton is the other.) But they retain the dubious distinction of being the only club without a point, and that places them on the bottom of the league table. Last week the Hammers lost 1-3 to cross town rivals Chelsea at Upton Park. To their credit, however, West Ham became the only team to score against Chelsea this season when Scott Parker lobbed the ball over the head of Petr Cech. The Hammers’ cause in the upcoming fixture isn’t helped by the fact that the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur falls on Saturday; West Ham will be without manager Avram Grant and defender Tal Ben Haim who will both observe the holiday. Grant’s religious convictions may not help his job prospects, as there is speculation that he may get the old heave-ho if West Ham continue to lose.
